Maya's Authentic Mexican Food
A food-truck dream that grew into four restaurants — now downtown
Can I work from here? Not really a work spot — it's a sit-down restaurant, not a café. Come for the food, not the laptop.
Bring kids? Yes — family-owned and family-friendly by nature. The Maya family built this from a food truck, and it shows in the welcome.
Under $20? Doable on a budget. Generous portions of authentic Mexican; you'll eat well without blowing the bank.
Maya's Authentic Mexican Food is now in Davis and we couldn't be more excited. We got a chance to meet Daisy and Miguel, the daughter-and-father duo behind the restaurant. They told us about their family and their history in the restaurant industry — this is their fourth restaurant in the area.
They're on the corner of 2nd and D Street downtown, which makes it a convenient stop when you're already out and about. Everything we ordered was fantastic, and we're going to try to make our way through the entire menu. If you're a fan of Mexican food, we think this might be one of the best in town.
The whole thing started with a humble food truck and a dream to connect with the community through cooking. They still have that truck — and have since added three Maya's restaurants across the area. You can taste the family legacy in every dish.
They started as a single food truck and still run it — ask the family about the original truck. The drinks menu was on hold pending their alcohol license; if it's active now, they had a big list ready to go.
